Nose Sculpting

The shape of the nose plays a major role in enhancing the facial beauty of a person. Nose sculpting is one such cosmetic surgical treatment that reshapes your nose and enhances your beauty.

What is nose sculpting?

Nose sculpting is also called as rhinoplasty or nose job and it is one of the most common surgeries performed in the recent times. It is a surgery to change the shape of the nose by modifying the bone or cartilage.

The various reasons for nose sculpting are:

  • Medical reasons — such as to correct breathing problems related to the nose or correct disfigurement resulting from trauma or birth defects.
  • Cosmetic reasons, which will change the nose’s shape and appearance.
    • It helps in modifying the shape of the nose and creates the desired shape.
    • It can make the nose larger or smaller.
    • It can widen the bridge.
    • The angle of the nose can be changed.
    • It alters the tip of the nose, bumps and other defects in the nose.
    • It can straighten the bridge.
    • It reshapes the nose in relation to the facial balance.
    • It elevates a depressed nose by adding cartilage.

The surgeon will want to review your medical history to know your medical status. The doctor will examine your nose to determine the changes that could be made. He will make a note of all the irregularities and other specifications. The surgeon may also take a picture of the nose to make a medical record. You will be asked to perform a few tests if required.

Before the rhinoplasty surgery, you may have to follow certain instructions like avoiding the intake of aspirin, ibuprofen, anti-inflammatory drugs and other medicines that slowdown the process of blood clotting. You will have to stop smoking as the intake of tobacco interferes with the healing process.

Rhinoplasty is usually done as an outpatient procedure, meaning there is no overnight stay. You’ll get general or local anesthesia. With general anesthesia, you’ll sleep through the operation. With local anesthesia, you will be sedated and your nose will be numbed so you are relaxed and unable to feel the pain.
During an operation, the surgeon makes cuts within the nostrils. In more difficult cases, the surgeon may also make cuts across the base of the nose. The surgeon then reshapes the inner bone and cartilage to produce a more pleasing appearance. The procedure usually takes 1 to 2 hours to complete.

After a rhinoplasty, people usually wear a nasal splint for the first week to retain the nw shape during the recovery process. You can get swelling and some bruising around the eyes after surgery that will begin to improve after the third day. It can, though, last up to two weeks. Your doctor would prescribe a few pain fillers in case you complain of any pain and headache, nausea etc.Your nose may have a little swelling, which probably only you and your surgeon will notice. To reduce swelling, you will have to rest your head high above your chest. This will go away over the next six months. You will have to be careful while brushing, chewing, blowing your nose, running or resting your glasses on the nose. Avoid vigorous movements for a few weeks till your nose surgery heals. Follow up visits are important in this surgery. Be cautious and follow the instructions given by the doctor.
