Many of us are unhappy with the shape of our nose. Some noses are big while some are small. For sure, a sharp nose always intensifies your facial appearance. Are you the one who is concerned about your nose shape? If yes, nose reshaping or rhinoplasty, that helps beautify your nose with which you are unhappy is a procedure of choice.
What is nose reshaping?
Nose reshaping is a complex procedure that is very effective in changing the size and shape of your nose. The procedure can also change the angle of the nose, correct the tip of the nose, bumps and other defects related to the nose. Nose reshaping or rhinoplasty is also effective in treating breathing problems by altering the structure of the nose.
Who are the right candidates for nose reshaping?
You are eligible for a nose reshaping procedure:
- If you have a wide or thin nose
- If you have a bump on the nose
- If your nostrils are too wide and unattractive
- If your nose tip is not in sync with the rest of the face or nose
- If you have a deviated nasal septum
- If your nose is injured or broken
What happens during the procedure?
Nose reshaping is performed under a general or local anesthesia. It is performed as an outpatient procedure, but sometimes you may have to stay for the night.
During the procedure, your surgeon makes a small incision to access the cartilage and bone that supports your nose. The incisions are made inside the nose which makes them invisible after the procedure. Depending on the goal of the treatment either some bone or cartilage is removed or tissue may be added. The tissue can be extracted from another
part of the body or it can be artificial filler.
After rearranging the bone and cartilage the skin and tissue are redraped over the nose. The nose is then supported with the help of a splint from outside. The new perfect shape of the nose appears as it heals.
What to expect after the procedure?
After the procedure, you may experience swelling and bruising around your eyes for 2days to 2 weeks. You will have to wear the nasal splint for one week. There will be a little swelling on your nose for about six months which is not so prominent. The final shape of your nose will appear gradually once the nose is completely healed.
What are the risks of nose reshaping?
Temporary swelling and bruising around the eyes is common, sometimes you may also experience bleeding, nasal blockage, infection, injury to the nasal septum, and complications of anesthesia.
Aftercare and recovery
After the surgery, it is important for you to make yourself feel comfortable. You must spray a saline mist and then place antibiotic ointment inside your nose quarterly per day. This helps minimize the risk of nasal crust formation. It is important to refrain from smoking till two weeks after the surgery. There may be a slight nasal congestion which will be improved by third or fourth week after the procedure. You must be watchful for any signs and symptoms of complications after the surgery.
